Ugboko Comprehensive Classrooms

Refurbishment Is Completed

Thank you all for your hard work and support, renovations to the Ugboko Comprehensive School's classrooms we undertook in 2008 is now complete.  As you know, it was a decision we took as a union in 2007 during the Toronto Convention.  Members unanimously voted for UPU North America to undertake the refurbishment of 3 to 5 sets of classrooms in the Ugboko Comprehensive School.

In collaboration with the Principal and PTA, a 5-classroom building was identified and earmarked for renovation.  After working out some kinks with the process, a formal Invitation for Bids was circulated in June 2008. Subsequently, a contract
was awarded for the modernization project in July 2008 and subsequently completed December 2008.

Handover ceremony from UPU president, Austine Ikechukwu to the Delta State Commissioner for Education was conducted at the school site with Obi Albert Nwoko in attendance.  Also in attendance were Education Ministry representatives, IUDU officials and rank and file of Idumuje-Ugboko.

Ugboko Comprehensive Classrooms Refurbishment update

At the 2007 Toronto Convention, members unanimously voted for UPU North America to undertake the refurbishment of 3 to 5 sets of classrooms in the Ugboko Comprehensive School.  In collaboration with the Principal and PTA, a 5-classroom building was identified and earmarked for renovation.  After working out some kink with the process, a formal Invitation for Bids was circulated in June 2008. Subsequently, a contract
was awarded for the modernization project in July 2008. The scope of work was repair/replacement of roofing, ceilings, doors and windows, plastering of floors and walls, and electrical wiring and fixtures.  Target completion date was set for November 30, 2008.  We are happy to announce that the project is in a 90% completion stage with painting of the block of classrooms currently ongoing. So far, a total of about 3M (three million naira) has been expended on this project. A detailed report will be presented at the 2009 Dallas Convention. Because of funds constraints, the electrical wiring portion of this project has been momentarily shelved. Before and after photos of the project site will be posted here on the site as they become available.  Members will be notified when the photos are posted.
